6 Reasons Why Buying Designer Furniture Is Really Worth It.

When it comes to furnishing your home, it can be difficult to know where to invest one's time and money - and how much is too much. Perhaps a friend of yours has just spent an eye-watering sum on a new designer sofa, or you've finally worked up the courage to walk into the local showroom whose threshold you previously dared not cross, considering the pieces inside to be beyond your reach. Whatever the scenario, we've probably all asked ourselves the same question at one time or another - is it really worth it?

Oftentimes, anything with the term "luxury" attached to it can seem like a frivolous indulgence, but when it comes to the way we value our furniture, many of us fail to consider the profound impact it can have on our lives, and tend to look at it primarily from a utilitarian perspective. But we shouldn't. Our homes are our most intimate sanctuaries in which we're likely to spend the majority of our time, and like our fashion choices, the pieces we surround ourselves with are an intimate reflection of who we are - what we like, and who we aspire to be.

Still, the justifications for investing in designer furniture go beyond the sentimental. Here are our top six reasons why designer furniture is worth the investment.

1. It will last a lifetime.

The old adage "you get what you pay for" rings particularly true in this case, and is one of the top reasons to invest in designer furniture. When comparing prices between designer and mass-produced furniture, it may be tempting to compromise for the cheaper option in order to save money. While you will surely do so in the immediate sense, there is a good chance that you will end up spending more in the long run. Lower quality means greater wear and tear, and odds are it'll need to be replaced multiple times over the course of your life. Designer furniture however, is constructed using the best available materials, often by hand, and won't need to be replaced for many years. It's not uncommon for these pieces to outlive their first owners and be handed down from generation to generation, which means you'll not only save money in the long run, but keep a lot of waste out of the landfill in the process.

2. Visible difference in quality.

Sometimes it can be hard to put our finger on why, but we all know when something looks cheap. The same is true for the reverse - good quality shows, and has a way of elevating its surroundings. The superior materials, artistry and craftsmanship on display in designer furniture mean it will age with character and grace, and remain an exquisite reflection of your tastes for years to come.

3. Retains its value over time.

The value of quality furniture holds up for many years, so while it may seem like you're overspending, you are genuinely saving money. Designer furniture is built to stand up to the rigours of everyday life, and due to the sheer level of craftsmanship involved, many pieces are produced in limited quantities, which means each piece is unique and inherently more valuable as a result. Provided that you maintain your furniture well, you can expect a strong resale value should you wish to give your home a makeover in the future. Cheaper alternatives on the other hand, may only net you pennies on the dollar should you decide to move on from it.

4. Timeless style.

A well-known fact in the design community is that quality outlives trends. When you buy luxury furniture, you can be sure of the countless hours of research, thought and expert craftsmanship that have gone into it. Rather than pandering to momentary trends, these pieces often take months to create, and therefore follow classical and minimalist design principles, which lends them to timeless styles which remain forever in fashion. The high level of creative vision involved means you'll have a piece of artistry that's unlike most anything else on the market.

5. Specifically tailored to your needs and space.

While mass-produced furniture may be less expensive, you're often limited to the number shapes and sizes available, which means you may end up compromising on the look and feel of your home. Designer furniture by definition is available in many different iterations - often ordered to your unique specifications - thus allowing you to truly make your space your own.

6. It's an investment in your health and quality of life.

One of the key aspects of designer furniture is the consideration given to ergonomics - how its use will impact your body and overall health. When furniture you use for significant amounts of time - such as an office chair, for example - doesn't give you proper support, it can cause lasting damage to your back, neck, shoulders and hips. Big picture, it is well worth investing in something well-made.
